The Piedmont Percussion Program was designed especially for experienced and in-experienced percussionists with various goals in music. The program sponsors concerts, clinics, and special events and remains active in the community. Encouraging percussionists from all over the western piedmont to participate, our goal is to provide playing opportunities through various percussion ensembles. Our staff of highly trained percussion teachers are on hand to provide lessons and guidance on all the major areas of percussion. We accept people at all levels, beginner, intermediate, advanced, from elementary school - college level. Ensembles are divided into various playing levels and concentrations based on the individuals and their needs. The percussion ensembles perform regularly around the community for numerous special events. Such events include the North Carolina Day of Percussion, held yearly at different universities around the state, Hickory’s annual Oktoberfest, and the Fall and Spring a PPP concerts. Other performances include in-school concerts, local fund raisers, Tours, and community festivals. The PPP has been recognized in both Percussion News and Percussive Notes, national percussion magazines.
When you join the PPP, you have an opportunity to meet and work with percus-sionists from all over the local area. Partici-pation in the program provides performance opportunities through various percussion ens-embles. The fun and excitement experienced with the PPP both on stage and off is beyond words. While with the PPP you will attain many of the skills needed for the post-high school challenges as a musician. The Piedmont Percussion Program is a unique community program designed for the development of young percussionists in the Piedmont area of North Carolina. Area band directors and music educators encourage the involvement in such programs as a tool for strengthening basic skills in the major areas of percussion: snare, timpani, small percussion, keyboard percussion, and hand percussion. Our facilities at the Catawba Arts and Science Center (or Salt Block) are excellent. The rehearsal hall is the same one used by the Western Piedmont Symphony, the Western Piedmont Youth Symphony, Hickory Choral Society, and Chamber Orchestras. Tuition helps pay for instruments, and is done so on a semester basis, Fall and Spring.
The Steel Drum Ensemble:
“Pandemic”, is made possible by patron contributions / donations / gigs. The group’s Calypso flavor makes an exciting and exotic contribution to the local community with public performances year round. Participation is limited based on the availability of positions & is by invitation only.
